The Urgent Need for Our Compassion and Care Campaign-Bricks for Bennett
Bennett Centre is currently facing a waiting list of 315 individuals, underscoring the growing need for care options for our aging population in Halton. With the Region’s population projected to reach 780,000 by 2031, the demand for senior care services will only continue to increase, placing further strain on existing LTC homes.
To address this pressing need, we are committed to expanding the Bennett Centre. Our plan includes transforming our current 66-bed residence into a 192-bed home on our 5-acre property at 225 Halton Hills Drive in Georgetown. This expansion will add 126 additional beds, helping to alleviate the current shortage and support the increasing number of older adults (65+) in our community—a population expected to double in the coming years.
This initiative is a vital step toward meeting the long-term care needs of Halton’s aging population. Your support of our Compassion and Care Campaign-Bricks for Bennett will help ensure that seniors in our community have access to the care and services they deserve. Together, we can create a sustainable future for compassionate senior care in Halton.
We are raising $15 million and need to secure community support through our Compassion & Care Campaign to fund the cost of bringing this state-of-the-art home to fruition. Our Board, management, staff and volunteers are committed to Bennett Village being a leader in adult living environments and services and our planned development will bring that vision to life. Join us on this incredible ‘Bricks for Bennett’ journey to provide an exceptional LTC home to seniors in Halton and beyond.
Our Goal
We need your help to raise $15 million for a new long-term care home. We are full and have a long waiting list; the new facility will provide more seniors in need with a place to call home.
Our new state-of-the-art home will increase Bennett Center’s care capacity, enhancing residents’ wellbeing in a safe, dignified, and socially connected environment.
The Need
As our loved ones age, we want to ensure that they receive the same compassion and care that we would provide. Moving into long-term care can be a complicated and potentially stressful process, especially given that spaces in Ontario are scarce. At present, the Mississauga/Halton region has fewer beds per population aged 75+ than any other region in Ontario, with bed ratios almost 30% lower than the provincial average. Wait times for an available room can be up to two years.
The need for more beds has never been greater. There is also an increased need for specialized care in long-term care homes that responds to the needs of behaviourally and cognitively impaired, physically dependent residents.
Currently, there are approximately 25,000 Francophones residing within the Mississauga/Halton region and 19.5% of them are over 65 years old. As well, there are more than 16,000 Francophone seniors residing in the Greater Toronto Area, and access to Francophone long-term care beds is greatly needed. Currently, more than 700 Francophone seniors in the GTA are on waiting lists. There are no specialized long-term care beds for these members of our community, creating an urgent need for establishing a dedicated Francophone unit to support this linguistic and culturally unique community in this region.
